School Profile:

Eastbourne College is a co-educational independent school in the Eastbourne on the south coast of England.It takes five minutes’ walk from the school to Eastbourne railway station . The trains for London Victoria and Gatwick leave every  an hour. There is easy access between Gatwick and Heathrow airports by coach.. The first girls were admitted in 1969 and the school became fully co-educational by 1995. Girls comprise about 44% of pupil body now. The school was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in 2014. In the ten different areas that the inspection covered, the school received the top rating of excellent in eight of them; .As the school celebrates the 150th anniversary, a £33 million redevelopment at the heart of the school..

Eastbourne College faces the sea with beautiful school buildings and purpose-built facilities. It is close to the galleries and theaters in the city. 

 

Academic Success:

The school’s primary aim is to equip children to lead happy, fulfilled lives in a safe environment. We aim for all pupils to enjoy learning, we encourage their creativity and inspire them to be ambitious and successful. Excellent results are achieved by the pupils at both GCSE and A-Level. Their performances on Art and Latin are very satisfactory indeed. In  2019’s  At A-Level, almost 40% of all grades awarded at A* or A. More than 90% of their leavers will go on to university.  The career department offers a professional careers and higher educational advisers, sufficient information and resources and a career programme to students.

University Destination:

70% of them achieve their first choice university, typically within the Russell Group.

Boarding and Pastoral Care for students:

The school has a very strong tradition for boarding and approximately half of the students are boarders. There are two boarding houses for girls (Nugent and School) and three for boys (Gonville, Pennell and Wargrave). All the houses are staffed by a resident housemaster or housemistress supported by a team of tutors that includes a resident tutor in the boarding houses. The boarding houses also have a resident matron. At weekends, a series of activities and events take place from house concerts, to dinners, sport, drama, music and trips. There is a medical centre in the campus to ensure that medical cover is available day and night for boarders.

 

Extracurricular Activities:

Eastbourne College provides all-round education to student.. Academic priority is unquestioned at Eastbourne College but the provision of co-curricular activity is also considered to be a vital cornerstone in the education and development of pupils. Typically pupils will be involved in anything from one to three activity sessions per week depending on the term and the year group. The activities include drama, music, arts, skills, sports, games and fitness. There also programmes to train up the life skills of the students as well as to broaden their horizon such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and expeditions. All Year 10 pupils join the Combined Cadet Force so that they can acquire a sense of responsibility, camaraderie and resourcefulness. The school is well-equipped with theatre, art centre and different kind of sport facilities such as pitches and swimming pool. And the school is located in coastal area so students can enjoy aquatic activities and water sports if they wish to.

Besides, the school organizes many art and drama related courses, such as art, dance, drama and music. They cooperate with a lot of outstanding organizations to provide workshops and programme, including the Royal Society of Arts. The school also runs many student-initiated charity and fundraising activities to help the local society
