International Scholarships

Academic Success:

Academic excellence is at the heart of the Harrogate Ladies’ College curriculum. They're passionate about learning and they believe that the senior school years should be academic, stimulating, exciting, challenging and rigorous.  Outstanding teaching and a secure, hospitable community all ensure the girls become confident accomplished young ladies.  

Harrogate Ladies College achieves outstanding academic result in A-Level and GCSE and top results were achieved across all subject of all grades at A*- C Level.  Most of the girls achieved their best results with the Further Maths grades at A* and 100% at A* - A.

University Destination:

HLC has an excellent track record of securing places at UK’s top Universities.  The majority of the girls are accepted their first choice of universities, a high percentage of which are Russell Group and Oxbridge.

Boarding and Pastoral Care for students:

The school has more than 20 different nationalities. It is a great opportunity for international students to improve their English and experience with a different culture.

The boarding house is arranged to mixed ages of girls from 11 to 17 and this special approach which gives the houses a real sense of family 'Big Sister' and 'Little Sister' live side by side and learns how to support each other in the same way they do in a traditional family home.  Each house has a House Mistress and at least one Assistant House Mistress who live in the house and who is responsible for girls progress each day, development and individual wellbeing.

The bedrooms are typically large, airy rooms with plenty of their own space.  When girls reach the Upper Sixth (Year 13) they can enjoy their sense of independence into their accommodation "Tower House", where the girls have their bedroom and quiet to concentrate on the studies.  The Tower house is fully equipped with full kitchen facilities, giving the girls the option to cook

At Harrogate Ladies’ College, passionately believe that happy school life, healthy, confident and successful.  It works to develop a culture where the girls respect themselves, others and the world around them.  The small class sizes enable teachers to get to know and understand each child and to support their all-round well-being development.

The award-winning Catering Team is made up of talented and creative Chefs and Sous Chefs who understands childhood nutrition and are dedicated to promoting positive attitudes towards food and eating. The health and wellbeing of all the children from 2 to 18 years are of paramount importance.  The school has a dedicated Wellness Centre which is a hub for a wide range of activities and project designed to encourage the physical, mental and social well-being of children.  The Wellness Centre also has a full time qualified nursing team.  As well as being on hand deal with the medical and healthcare needs of the children.

Extracurricular Activities:

HLC has a fabulous array of around 50 extra-curricular clubs and activities running at lunchtime and after school.  The girls stay at the school beyond the normal school day to make the most of the activities on offer.

Sports clubs – including football, rugby, cricket, swimming, running, tennis, athletics, fencing, gymnastics.

Music Clubs – including Junior, Middle, Senior, Gallery and Show Choirs, Assembly Ensemble, Junior Strings.

Drama Clubs – including TheatreBox (Musical Drama), Speech and Drama.

Dance Clubs – including ballet, tap, modern and street dance.

Plus lots of other clubs – including tricky time tables, eco, art, Imagineering, lego, loom bands and many more.

HLC has an incredibly wide and diverse range of extra-curricular clubs and societies that are available to students extra-curricular activities are including an Astronomy, Debating and Public Speaking, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Creative Writing, Italian, Philosophy, Chapel Choir, Gallery Choir, Middle Choir, Orchestra, Strings Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Badminton, Fencing, Trampolining, Basketball and Horse Riding.
