School Profile:

Sherborne International is an independent co-educational boarding school in the historic town of Sherborne in the south-west of England. It takes 2 hours to London Heathrow Airport and 2.5 hours to London Gatwick Airport. It was originally known as Greenhill House. It moved to its present site in 1991 and started to accept girls since 1996. The school was inspected by the Government in 2016 and was graded ‘Excellent’ (the top grade) in all areas of school life. Sherborne International does not offer A-Level syllabus. It is not recommended for the students to study in the school until graduation. It is better to be considered as transfer station. With the small classes system and the high flexibility of lessons, the school is more a tutorial center.

Academic Success:

Sherborne International aims to provide the best possible academic start for the students in the British education system. Students join the school from many different educational systems around the world. At whatever age they come they have differing standards of academic development. Each student should acquire as good a command of English as is possible in the time available to ensure academic success and the ability to make friends and live in England. Academically the School still holds true to its original ideas of providing quality teaching through small classes (usually a maximum of 8 students per class). In 2019, 70% of IGCSE / GCSE grades are A*-C

Boarding and Pastoral Care for students:

Every student at Sherborne International lives in one of 5 boarding houses (3 for boys and 2 for girls). All are either new buildings, or have been comfortably refurbished. During the school day all members of staff contribute to the care of each student, and both academic and support staff liaise carefully with boarding staff to ensure that the best possible pastoral support is given. A senior member of the academic management team also sees each student individually at least twice a term. The School has access to a specialist Health Centre where students can stay to recuperate under constant medical supervision. Students can join activities or spend time with friend on weekend. There are many opportunities for trips away arranged by boarding house or year group to watch local sports teams, go ten pin bowling, go to the cinema or to go shopping locally. On Sunday afternoon every student has supervised prep between 4:30 and 6:00pm and later in the evening there is a room inspection and preparation for the week ahead.

Extracurricular Activities:

Apart from the weekend activities, there are weekly activity sessions for all students. Such activities often include the possibility to take horse-riding, arts and crafts, golf, cookery and a host of other activities. Although the School does not presently include music as a timetabled subject on the curriculum, they provide individual music lessons for those wishing to learn a new instrument and for those who are already proficient. They also offer singing lessons and run a small choir which practises weekly. Students can participate in sports. There are outdoor playing areas such as basketball courts for students to use, as well as access to the sports facilities
